Abstract

256,275. Zopp, A. Aug, 1, 1925, [Convention date]. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Pendulum-weight apparatus.-In a weighing scale wherein the load and a counterbalancing weight therefor, are suspended from a cam plate by flexible bands, the spindle ot the cam plate rolls on a stationary horizontal surface and the movement is transmitted to an indicating pointer or to a dial to enable the weight of the load to be read off. In the form shown diagrammatically in Fig. 1, the scale pan 5 and the counterbalancing weight 8 are suspended, by flexible bands 4, 7, from the periphery of a cam plate 1 mounted on a spindle 2. A graduated dial 9 is attached to the cam plate. The spindle rolls upon a surface 3, and the weight of the load is indicated on the dial by a pointer 10. The dial may be stationary and the pointer attached to the cam. If the cam and dial are in neutral equilibrium, the weighing capacity may be extended by increasing the weights of the counterweight 8 and pan 5 by the same multiplication factor and similarly multiplying the dial indications. In the form shown in Fig. 2, a second cam plate 13 rigidly connected to the cam plate 1 is used, and the range of the balance may be increased by successive amounts by adding weights 16 - - 18 to the flexible band 14, the dial indications being then increased by corresponding additions. The addition of weights to the band 14 may be used for balancing the tare. In a further modification, Fig. 3, three cam plates 20 - - 22, relatively adjustable, are used. In a suspended scale, Fig. 4, the dial plate 9 and cam 1 are brought to neutral equilibrium by an adjustable weight 33, and the dial carries two sets of graduations for use respectively with and without an additional weight 34 on the band 7. In order to damp the oscillations of the scale the spindle 2 has a restricted rolling movement upon the surface 3. and in the limiting positions bears against the sides of a hole 27 in the suspension shackle, thus introducing friction by a slipping movement. To prevent damage to the spindle by this slipping movement, a piece 36, Fig. 6, may be inserted between the spindle 2 and the cam 1, the slipping then taking place between the pin 36 and the cam. In the scale shown in Fig. 10, the pan is carried by a tube 49 suspended by flexible bands from involute cams 45, 46 carried by rolling members 47. A weight 8 suspended by bands 7 counterbalances the load. The cams are prevented from slipping by bands attached to the rolling surface 48. Bearing balls 54 having vertical movement between flanges 55, 56 guide the tube 49 at the lower end and by pressing against the flanges 55, 56 damp the oscillations. The tube 49 may be hexagonal, and three bands may be used to support the tube. In a further modification, the tube 49 is connected to two systems of cams arranged one above the other. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also a modification wherein a weighted arm is attached to the cam plate. In a modification of the construction shown in Fig. 6, the spindle 2 is replaced by a knife-edge having a restricted rocking movement. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
