Abstract
715,326. Spring weighing scales. ETABLISSEMENTS PERCHE. June 18, 1951 [June 26, 1950; June 1, 1951], No. 14426/51. Class 143 In a spring counterbalanced weighing scale of the kind in which the pan rests at the top of a vertical stem guided by parallel links, and movement of this stem against the resistance of a spring is communicated to an indicating dial or drum through a rack or gear segment engaging a pinion co-axial with the dial or drum shaft, one end of the spring is permanently secured to the vertical stem whilst the other end is anchored to an adjustable zeroizing member. As shown in Fig. 2, the stem 7 is guided by links 5, 6 and weighing movement is communicated to an indicating drum 26 through a pinion 21, a gear sector 20, and a lever 17 pivoted at 16 and urged into engagement with an abutment 19 on the stem 7 by a spring 18. The weighing spring 29 is anchored at one end to a lug 30 on the stem 7, and at the other end to a bell crank 27 which, through a threaded rod 31 and knob 33, is adjustable to tare the scale. The weight is observed through a window 35 against a fixed index 36. In a modification, Fig. 3, a further parallel guide link 51 is pivoted to the stem 7 and the levered pivot 16, and the lever, which is adjustable in length, has an abutment 17a urged against lever 51 by both a spring 18 and a counterweight 55 suspended from a cord 53 wound around a pulley 54 secured to the drum spindle 22. A lever 56, secured by weight 55 and of length greater than the distance between pivot 3 and spindle 22, ensures that the counterweight 55 does not pass over pulley 54 in the event of the scale being inverted. A slide 66 having an end 67 engageable with a notch 68 in the stem 7 serves to lock the scale. In a further modification, Fig. 4 (not shown) a rack pivoted to the stem 7 engages a pinion on a horizontal spindle which extends parallel to links 5, 6 and which has a frusto conical indicating dial secured thereto, the spring 29 being replaced by a pair of springs which are yoked together and are disposed one on each side of the spindle.
