Spring balances. - In a weighing-scale adapted to indicate under and over weight, the load is supported upon a frame that is movable vertically along a rotatable guide, but is itself held against rotational movement. As shown in Fig. 1, a goods pan 1 is supported on a frame 2 slidably mounted on a vertical post 6. The weighing-resistant comprises a sinuous spring 9 anchored at one end 11 to the framework and provided at the other end 14 with a fork, the pointed upturned ends 10 of which serve both to support and prevent rotation of the frame 2. The effect of friction between the post and frame is eliminated by rotation of the post through a pulley 7 or other means. The indicating means comprise a pointer registering with a chart and actuated from the frame through a rack and pinion. In a modification, Fig. 8, the goods pan 1 is supported on a vertical post 25 vertically slidable within a rotatable sleeve 26. In a fur. ther modification, rotation of the frame is prevented by the provision of two vertical rotatable guides with which the frame engages. The invention is applicable to a machine having an automatic-feed device, the operation of which is controlled by a downward projection 20, Fig. 7, of the frame 2 that either intercepts a rocking arm 21 or allows it to pass according to whether the load is above or below a certain weight.
