Pendulum-weight apparatus. - An automatic weighing-scale comprises a beam, a pan for the commodity, a pointer moving over a graduated dial and connected to the beam through the medium of a link, hinged at one end, to a radius arm secured to the beam and, at the other end, to a radius arm secured to the pointer, and a counterweight mounted on the knife-edges that carry the beam, is characterized by the lengths of the radius arms connecting the link to the beam and pointer respectively, being approximately in the ratio # 3:1. In the form shown diagrammatically in the Figure, the beam 1, 2 of a Roberval type of scale carries a pendulum weight 4, and the pointer 15 is connected to the beam by a link 18 the pivotal ends 19, 20 of which are connected to arms 21, 22 on the beam and pointer respectively. A weight 23 secured to the pan support 7 maintains the pointer in its zero position when no load rests upon the commodity pan 10. In order to obtain an evenlydivided scale 17 the lengths of the arms 21, 22 are in the ratio 1.732 to 1. Vibration, preventing and neutralizing.-The oscillations of the beam are damped by a piston 32 secured to the pan support 7 and moving with slight clearance within a square or rectangular tank 27 containing oil or air and having curved sides 28, 29. Loose and sliding weight apparatus. - The weighing capacity may be increased by adding loose weights to the pa.n 11 or alternatively the pan may be replaced by a graduated lever secured to the arm 2 of the beam and fitted with an adjustable poise weight. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also a means for changing the weighing capacity consisting of a throw-over weight which may bear on the arm 2 in two positions. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
