Abstract

425,540. Variable - speed gearing. BACK, A., 6, Mondgasse, Reichenberg, Czecho- Slovakia, and KRAUTSCHNEIDER, J., Erwood, Hudson Bay Junction, Saskatchewan, Canada. July 18, 1933, No. 20294. [Classes 80 (i) and 80 (ii)] [See also Group XXV] Power is transmitted at variable speeds from a pair of toothed cones 1, 1<1>, having their adjacent generating-lines parallel to each other, to a similar oppositely-arranged pair 3, 3<1>, by means of a variable-pitch chain 2, meshing between each pair of cones and passing around guide-sprockets or pulleys 7. The chain consists of thin superposed plates 12, slidable transversely between pivotallyconnected guide-plates 10, to accommodate the differences in tooth profile as the chain is moved bodily along the cones for varying the speed. The guide-plates 10 engage sidenotches 13, Fig. 2, in some of the plates 12, and slots in others, 14. Auxiliary teeth 17 and gaps 16 are formed in the larger ends of the cones. To move the chain, the guidepulleys 7 may be moved together axially, or, as shown in Fig. 7, along guides parallel to the adjacent generating-lines of the cones, either by hand or by means of a motor.
