Abstract

425,197. Speed indicators. HEMPHILL CO., Central Falls, and LAWSON, R. H., 55, Cooke Street, Pawtucket, both in Rhode Island, U.S.A. March 2, 1934, No. 6746. Convention date, March 28, 1933. [Class 106 (iii)] [See also Group VIII] A knitting or other textile machine is provided with means for determining the speed at which thread is supplied to the needles &c., and for readily effecting changes therein. A master indicator 43 having spaced holes 63 thereon may be driven at variable speed by a friction disc 40 from a shaft 10 gearing with the needle cylinder, and auxiliary indicators 53 driven by the threads T may be carried by a stationary plate 50 so that holes 62 in the indicators may register with the holes 63. The stitch drawing cam or other part of the knitting-machine is adjusted so that the tangential speed of the holes 62 is the same as that of the holes 63. To enable the speed of the indicator 43 to be varied, the shaft 19 carrying the friction driving disc 40 is slidably mounted in a sleeve 18 to which is secured a bevel gear 17 engaging a gear 14 on the shaft 10. The end of the shaft 19 is screw-threaded, and a nut 23 adjustable by hand and held in an adjusted position by a pin 31 engages the screwthread shaft 19. A scale 39 is provided for indicating the speed of the indicator 43.
