July 8, 1930, No. 20661. Convention date, May 29. [Class 74 (i).] Relates to an improved combined dogless drive and racking mechanism for the dial of a rib machine. To hold the dial stationary with respect to the cylinder 1 the retaining spindle 7 is extended above the supporting nut 15 to a dogless mechanism carried by an annular bracket 18. To hold the spindle 7 against rotation the upper end is fastened to a ring 20 which is locked by latches 23 to a ring 21 surrounding it. Adjusting screws working against a pin 28 on a bracket 29 provide for circumferential adjustment of the dial. The ring 21 is racked by worm gear 51, a Geneva wheel 52 ensuring that the distance racked bears a simple relation to the pitch of the needles. The wheel 52 is controlled by pattern mechanism, which determines whether it remains at rest or is driven by one or other of pin discs 55, 56 rotating in opposite directions. The latches 23 are operated to slide radially in the ring 20 by a toothed wheel 32 having a cam track 37 and also guide eyes 43 for the yarns. The dial needle projecting cams and the cylinder needle raising cams are placed out of action while racking is being done. The yarns are also put out of action, by rocking the yarn guides, and. are cut and trapped. The racking mechanism may be applied to the cylinder as well as to the dial.
