Abstract

393,328. Knitting-machines. BRINTON CO., H., 3700, Kensington Avenue, Frankford, Philadelphia, U.S.A. Dec. 8, 1931, No. 34059. Convention date, Aug. 1. [Class 74 (ii).] A pattern device, acting in conjunction with a yarn feed, is provided for selectively moving the needles out of the range of the raising means which normally bring the needles to clearing height, the support for the pattern device enabling the latter to be so located as to select and move the needles when they are at either idle or tucking height. The needle cylinder is formed with tapered slots 22 to accommodate and permit radial movement of the resilient tails 25 of the needles when engaged by a design wheel 33 which moves the butts 26 out of range of the usual raising cams 19. The design wheel is carried bv a toothed wheel or plate 31 which has a driving engagement with the needles and is rotatably mounted on a bolt 30 carried by a support 27. Grooves 28, 29, formed in the support 27, permit circumferential adjustment of the design wheel so that the needles may be selected at idle or tucking level. A knitting cam 18 controlled by a bar 37 and pattern controlled slides 43, 44, is provided for nullifying the action of the design wheel, the cam 19 being formed with a bevelled under surface to permit of the needles being raised to clearing height. In a modification, an additional cam is provided for putting all the needles out of action at any desired feed.
