Abstract

830,219. Knitting. SUPREME KNITTING MACHINE CO. Inc. Nov. 20, 1956, No. 35398/56. Class 74 (2). As the needles 15 of a multi-feed, rotating cylinder machine begin to rise at a feed, hooked pile-loop-forming elements 55 are projected, engage a pile yarn 46 and, as the needles are finally raised to latch clearing position, and retracted to form, from that yarn, laterally extending pile loops 45 which are held taut whilst the needles are moved to cast-off position, and are thereafter released. The elements are carried in radial tricks 51 in a dial 50 rotatable with the needle cylinder 10 and are controlled by cams 60, 65 which are adjustable and replaceable. The needles are first raised to a predetermined level by a cam and then engage a pattern wheel, selected slots of which contain jacks which raise the needles to latch clearing, trick, or welt height The pile loops are formed only between those needles raised to clear (e.g. between alternate needles, the intermediate needles having been raised to welt height only). The elements 35 may be selected by pattern wheels. The needles may be mounted in the dial and the loop-forming elements in the cylinder.
