Abstract

799,735. Knitting. ETABLISSEMENT DE SEREVILLE. Feb. 9, 1955 [Feb. 19, 1954], No. 3809/55. Class 74 (2). Terry loops are formed on both faces of a fabric by an arrangement in which, after terry loops have been formed in the usual manner on the inner face of the fabric, as by means of a wheel 16 over the spikes of which a terry yarn 15 is drawn, the fabric is lifted up the stems of the needles by its passage over a plate 17 and, whilst it is so lifted, a second terry yarn 20 is fed beneath it and terry loops of that yarn are sunk on the other face of the fabric by the throats of the sinkers 8, which are advanced for this purpose. The needles have, alternately, long and short butts, which co-operate with a cam 6 recessed at 21, so that alternate needles are raised high enough to take the yarn 20 below their latches for it to be cast off in the course preceding that in which it is cast off by the intervening needles which, being raised to a lesser height, take the yarn in their hooks. A second plate 23 ensures that the fabric shall be restored to its original height. The sinkers bearing the yarn 20 in their throats retain the terry loops, until after the next course ; and the grooved yarn 14 is fed under the wheel 16 and drawn over the heads 8a of these advanced sinkers.
