1370124 Knitting-machines WILDT MELLOR BROMLEY Ltd 5 April 1972 [8 April 1971 14 May 1971] 9132/71 and 15072/71 Heading D1C In a circular knitting-machine having sprung needle jacks 8 whose operating butts 8c are maintained clear of the lifting cam 9 by a permanent magnet 17 attracting the top of a presser 10, the pressers are selectively released, so that the jacks can be raised, by a combined vertical and horizontal action effective on the presser-jack. In one embodiment the pressers pivot on a member 11 which is raised vertically by a cam track 13 at the selection station. An selector 18 slid horizontally into the operative position acting against the shaped surface of butt 10e cams the presser inwards and away from the permanent magnet as it is raised by the cam track. A preferred form of selector is as described in Specification 1370123. In a modification the butt 10e is provided as an extension of the member 11, which acts against the jack. In an alternative arrangement the pressers are pivoted on, but have some vertical movement relative to, a fixed pivot. In a second embodiment the ends 19b of the selectors are cam slopes and if selected raise the jacks 10, which are cammed inwards by a surface 18 acting on a cam surface 10c. The track 13 is widened at the selecting station accordingly.
