Abstract
484,711. Knitting. SOC. ETABLISSEMENTS LEBOCEY. Nov. 10, 1936, No. 30694. Convention date, Nov. 20, 1935. [Class 74 (ii)] A yarn feed device, particularly for use with elastic yarns and having means actuated from the machine for intermittently moving a yarn guiding eyelet which changes the position of the yarn along conical drums is characterized in that the eyelet is traversed by a simple or composite cam. The yarn can be fed at a variable rate or tension between cones 1, 2 of which the cone 2 is loosely mounted on its spindle, whilst the cone 1 is fixed to the driving spindle 3. The spindle 3 is driven through a change speed gear consisting of conical pulleys 4, 5, connected by an endless belt 6, the position of which can be varied by means of a screw 8 to vary the speed of the feed cones 1, 2 ; cone 5 is driven from the machine through wheel 10 and pinion 9. The yarn 13 passes through an eye 11 carried on a sliding rod 12 controlled by a scroll cam 14 which is driven by worm and worm-wheel 16, 15, the worm being rotated by means of a star wheel 17 and sliding tappet 19 carried by a rotary crown wheel rigid with the knitting machine. The tappet can be moved to an inactive position 20 and thus the feeding rate of the yarn made constant. The drop a, b on the cam permits a quick return of the yarn guide to its original position after a revolution of the cam during the fashioning of an article. Fig. 4 (not shown) depicts a somewhat differently shaped cam rotated by a ratchet wheel which is actuated by a link and crank device. The surfaces of the cones 1, 2, may be striated, fluted, milled, or covered, to provide a grip on the yarn. The scroll cam may be replaced by a chain, a drum provided with driving cams, a ratchet actuated screw, a linear cam, a stepped cam or other mechanical equivalent. The change speed gearway consist of stepped pulleys, friction plates, gears, etc. The device is primarily intended for the feeding of elastic yarn, but may be used, in combination or not with automatic sinker cam control, in fashioning by variation of the stitch length. Patterning can be incorporated in the case of an elastic yarn held between the plain and rib loops of a rib knitted fabric, by the use of a Jacquard the elastic yarn being made to appear at certain places only ; differently coloured stitches may also be made to appear on the ground fabric.
