423,835. Pumps. AKT.-GES. BROWN. BOVERI, & CIE, Baden, Switzerland. May 8, 1934, No. 13864. Convention date, July 1, 1933. [Class 7 (ii)] A blower and its prime mover are mounted on the casing of a machine which is driven by a Diesel engine, and the driven machine is on the same shaft as, or directly connected to, the Diesel engine, so that the driven machine, the blower and its prime mover, and the Diesel engine form a single unit. As shown in Fig. 3, the blower 3 is driven by an exhaust-gas turbine 4, the axis of the blower set being at right angles to the axis of the Diesel engine 1, which drives a generator 2 on which the set is mounted. The blower may be driven by an electric motor and may cool the generator by drawing its air supply therethrough. In modifications, the blower set is mounted (1) either with its axis horizontal and parallel to that of the Diesel engine and laterally thereof, or, (2) with its axis vertical.
