[Class 102 (i)] The time of fuel injection in internalcombustion engines is retarded on sudden increase of load. An engine-driven fuel pump c transmits pressure through a restricted passage p to a fuel pump &c. q, and to an expansion member h, the movements of which are taken up by the pump-actuating cam shaft u. Owing to the restricted passage p, a greater demand on the pump q is taken up first by the liquid within the member h. The effective pressure of the pump c may be adjusted by a throttle f in the byepass v.
