Abstract
419,390. Thermal switches; partly electromagnetic switches. SMITHSON & CO., Ltd., J. G., and SMITHSON, J. G., Nelson House, Moor Street, Birmingham. June 17, 1933, No. 17347. [Class 38 (v).] In thermallyoperated overload switches, the heating coil for the thermal member serves also as a magnetizing coil adapted to produce a magnetic effect supplementing the thermal effect and causing a rapid actuation of the switch on an extreme overload. In the form shown, the bimetallic strip a carries an armature c and contact d and is heated by a coil g which serves also to magnetize a strip f that attracts the armature. The bimetallic strip may be curved in section as described in Specification 419,085 so as to move with a snap-action.
