Abstract
419,082. Steam turbines. MEINING- HAUS, U., 4, Margaretenplatz, M³lheim, Ruhr, Germany. May 25, 1933, No. 15131. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Dec. 2, 1933.] [Class 110 (iii).] In a multiple-disc reaction turbine of the radial-flow type, the discs of which are bladed on one side only, the blades are distributed over a larger number of discs than the minimum number determined by a consideration of centrifugal forces. The object is to reduce the amount of unbalanced end thrust, and a number of arrangements are described in which the discs are mounted in overhung fashion on one or both ends of the shaft of a driven machine. In the Figure steam is admitted to an inwardflow impulse stage 22 by a coiled flexible pipe 19, which passes through a low pressure conduit of the turbine, and is then used in outward-flow blading a<2>, a<3>, a<4>, and finally in axial-flow blading 8. An end-thrust device 18 is positioned as shown. A dummy piston may be arranged on the other end of the shaft to take up end thrust. The turbine is arranged for dismantling in an axial direction, the discs being undivided. Specification 412,073 is referred to. 419,082.
