Abstract

418,215. Electromagnetic clutches. NORTON & CO., Ltd., SIR J. F., and NORTON, W. J., Adelphi Iron Works, Salford, Lancashire. April 12, 1933, No. 10928. [Class 35.] Electromagnetic driving-arrangements for wire-winding machines comprise an armature not externally energized carried by a shaft f which drives the reel shaft by a belt and pulley i, and a rotating magnetic field constituted by pole pieces energized by direct current through slip rings s, t and carried by a casing e driven by a belt c. The armature may be short circuited or may be tapped into the positive lead of the field circuit through a resistance, the former arrangement being suitable for a medium thickness of wire and the latter for fine wire. A one-way clutch or pawl and ratchet arrangement 2, 3, is provided between the armature and field to prevent overrunning of the armature when stopping. The Provisional Specification comprises also an unwound armature consisting of laminae bolted together.
