Electric and magnetic.- -The .exciting current of an eddy current brake 3 compensating for the difference between the normal output of a prime mover and the actual load at anv moment is varied by a centrifugual governor 23 controlling the rheostat 21. The brake drum may be water-cooled and the electromagnets 20 have a single coil winding supplied with current from a separate source 22 when the prime mover is not driving a dynamo.
