[Class 80 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXV] An electric motor 10 drives a gear 16, freely mounted on its armatureshaft 14, through a permanentlyengaged friction disc-coupling 18, 20, having a floating intermediate disc 22, which is automatically and positively locked by a spring-loaded pawl 28 when the motor-winding is de-energized, so as to brake independently the driven parts and the motorarmature 14. During running, the pawl 28 is retracted by a solenoid 32 energized simultaneously with the motor-winding.
