Abstract
647,832. Friction clutches. DUYCK, G. Nov. 24, 1947, No. 31085. Convention date, Nov. 23, 1946. [Class 80(ii)] [Also in Group XXXIV] An electromagnetic clutch comprises a shaft 12 carrying an annulus 13 on which is freely mounted an electromagnet 15 energized from brushes 16. The driven shaft 17 carries a plate 18 forming an armature for the magnet 15 and a drum 22. The magnet 15 carries a pin 19 connected to one end of the flexible band 21 whilst the other end of the band is connected by pin 20 to the plate 13 rigid with the shaft 12. Energizing the electromagnet 15 will cause band 21 to contact the inner surface of drum 22 and thus drive shaft 17. The band 21 may comprise more than one turn.
