Abstract

1495815 Friction clutches; clutch-brake combinations; electromagnetic brakes CUTLERHAMMER WORLD TRADE Inc 26 March 1976 [11 April 1975] 15056/75 Headings F2C F2L and F2E In an electromagnetically actuated friction clutch, brake or clutch-brake combination wherein an armature 18 moves axially into engagement with a friction material 24 carried by a disc 22a, the armature is made of low carbon steel and the friction material is a polyurethane devoid of friction modifying fillers. As shown, the armature 18 of a friction clutch is connected by a spring plate 16 to a driving sprocket 12 and the friction material 24 is secured between pole rings 22b, 26b fast with a driven shaft 10. On energization of a stationary electromagnet 20 the armature 18 moves against its spring bias into engagement with the friction material. In Fig. 3 (not shown) a spring engaged electromagnetically released brake is arranged at the opposite end of the electromagnet to the clutch, which brake is released when the clutch is engaged.
