655,025. Friction clutches. ETABLISSEMENTS ALBA. Dec. 21, 1948, No. 32955. Convention date, Feb. 14. [Class 80(ii)] In an electromagnetic friction clutch com- . prising a driven disc 40 arranged between a driving plate 4, housing the coil 7, and a slidable armature plate 24, rings 18, 19 and 25, 26 of cast iron are secured to the operative faces of the plates 4 and 24 respectively, to form the friction surfaces, while sheets of non-magnetic material, e.g. brass, are interposed between the rings and the plates and between the two thin plates 41, 42 forming the disc 40 so as to obviate the effects of remanent magnetism. The driving plate is in three parts 4, 5, 16 to permit assembly of the coil, the parts 4, 5 being of magnetic material and the part 16 of not magnetic material. Flexible arms 31 secured to the plate 24 at their inner ends have projections 35 at their outer ends engaging slots 37 in a non-magnetic ring 58 secured to the plate 4, whereby the plate 24 rotates with the plate 4 but can move axially. Slots may be provided in the plates 41, 42 to prevent deformation of the disc 40 under heat.
