904,306. Friction clutches. CENTRALNE BIURO KONSTRUKCYJNE OBRABIAREK. July 25, 1960 [Jan. 19, 1960], No. 25749/60. Class 80 (2). A stationary solenoid 4 is located between a hub 1 keyed to a shaft and a paramagnetic sleeve 11 fast with the hub, clutch discs 15 splined upon the paramagnetic sleeve being interleaved with clutch discs 7 splined in an outer paramagnetic housing 13, energization of the solenoid producing a magnetic field passing through mutually perpendicular air gaps X, Y and sliding a pressureplate 6 along pins 5 against the bias of disengaging springs 9 to clamp the clutch discs 7, 15 together. The holes in the pressure disc 6 through which the fixed pins 5 pass are part cylindrical and part frusto-conical in shape, Fig. 2 (not shown).
