Abstract
417,483. Tumbler switches. LUNDBERG & SONS, Ltd., A. P., and PEGG, G., 477, Liverpool Road, Holloway, London. Oct. 11, 1933, No. 28057. [Class 38 (v).] A three-position tumbler switch having a central off position designed for use as a reversing switch has two opposite groups of terminals A, B, C and D, E, F connected to fixed clip contacts 13. Pivoted on the bridge 15 are contact rockers 18, 19 adapted to be engaged by a tumbler 17 so that when the tumbler is moved to the left the contacts on rocker 19 are moved, and when the tumbler is moved to the right the contacts on rocker 18 are moved, the central position of the tumbler giving an off position for both sets of contacts. Rocker 18 carries three contact bars 21 each having a single blade 25, 27 so that on moving the tumbler to the right the two sets of contacts are bridged straight across. The rocker 19 carries two contact bars 31, 32, the bar 31 having a single blade at each end. The bar 32 has a pair of blades at each end, the members of each pair being connected together, but the two pairs being insulated from each other. Thus on moving the tumbler to the left the bar 31 bridges contacts C, F while the pairs of blades on bar 32 connects contacts A, B and D, E. Diagrams are given showing how the switch can be used for reversing the connections of a three-phase A.C. motor and of shunt and series wound D.C. motors. In a modification, the rockers 18, 19 each carry two bars and each bar is provided with a pair of blades at one end and a single blade at the other end, all three blades being connected together. The pairs of bars are arranged so as to place the single blade of one bar adjacent the double blade of the other bar. This is stated to be useful for reversing a split-phase A.C. motor in combination with a centrifugal switch. Also it can be used for reversing a shunt wound D.C. motor in which case the motor is isolated from both poles of the supply in the off position of the switch.
