Abstract

398,822. Air-break switches. STEWART, J. E. and NORTON, R. T., 14A, Eton Road, Hampstead, London. March 21, 1932, No. 8352. [Class 38 (v).] Relates to isolating switches forming units, a number of which are mounted in. constructional assemblage on a post of an overhead distribution line, each unit comprising a switch contact mounted on an insulator and means for swinging the contact into engagement with a stationary contact. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, each switch unit comprises a fixed contact 11 mounted on the insulator 6 carrying the main line 5 and connected thereto by a jumper 12 and a fixed contact 18 mounted on the insulator 15 carrying the looped end of the branch line 16 and connected thereto bv a jumper 19. The pairs of fixed contacts are adapted to be bridged by blades 22 mounted on insulators carried on a rotatable shaft 21, the blades being arranged to have a limited amount of free motion on the insulators in order that they may align themselves with the fixed contact clips 11, 18. The shaft 21 carries a locking plate so that it may be locked in the " on " or " off " position. In an alternative arrangement, Figs. 3 and 6 (not shown), the switches are mounted on the side of the pole 9 remote from the main lines 5 and separate insulators are provided for supporting the fixed switch contacts which are connected to these lines.
