411,194. Air-break switches. MACKAY, T. W., Pentland, Barton Road, Torquay, and KNOWLES, H. A., Lochnagar, Torquay Road, Kingskerswell, Newton Abbot, both in Devon. Dec. 21, 1932, No. 36157. [Class 38 (v).] Bases, earthing parts of.- An air-break switch and fuse equipment, particularly for overhead lines, comprises a number of blades or arms, each surrounded by an insulating sleeve secured to a rotatable shaft and provided with earthed protecting screens which carry contacts with which engage the blades or arms in the open position. With this arrangement, persons working on the equipment can be protected against contact with live conductors when the switch is open. As applied to a simple pole, each blade A with insulating shroud J has a metal collar B engaging in a porcelain sleeve C to which the blade is secured by a nut and bolt D and collar E. The electrical connection to the blade is made by means of a lug F. The sleeve C is clamped by means of a split clamp G to the rotatable operating shaft H, the arrangement imparting a wiping action to the contacts. L, K are earthed screens, the latter carrying the earthing contacts P for the blades A, and Q are fuses mounted on insulators R and connected to a transformer or other apparatus, M being the incoming line terminals. The invention is also shown applied to an H pole, Figs. 4, 5, (not shown).
