Abstract

395,088. Switchgear structures. DAVIES, D. R., 14, Ruabon Road, Didsbury, near Manchester. March 10, 1932, No. 7233. [Class 38 (v).] In a switchgear structure employing isolating switches or arrangements and vertical single-break oil circuit-breakers the fixed contact of eacb circuit-breaker is located in the base of the tank with its associated termina. led out at or near the base thereof anc the other termina' associated with the moving contact is led out through the side of the tank at a more elevatec part of the latter. As shown in the Figure 1 the circuit breaker is provided with contact mechanism of the type described in Specification 369,235 and has the fixed socket contact 7 mounted on the base of the tank 2 so that its terminal connection 8 passes downwardly through the base and has the terminal 15 conducting current to the -movable plug contact 1 passing through the side of the cylindrical tank at a more elevated position. The plug contact 1 passes through a hole in the end of the terminal 15 and may also be connected thereto by a flexible shunt 19. This contact is operated by mechanism 18 in the upper portion of the tank. The terminal 15 passes through a condenser type insulating bushing 16 to a bus-bar chamber 20 and terminates in a member 23 to which is pivoted the blade 22 of an isolating switch adapted to engage a bus-bar contact 21. The terminal 8 similarly passes to the fixed contact of an isolating switch adapted to be engaged by a blade 5a pivoted to the terminal 10 of a cable 6. This blade 5a may alternatively engage an earthing contact 13. In an alternative arrangement, Fig. 3, not shown, the positions of the bus-bars and cable ends may be reversed. The invention is also described in relation with vertical and horizontal draw-out switchgear structures for duplicate bus-bar systems (Figs. 2 and 4, not shown). The bus-bars may be enclosed in condenser type insulation such as in the manner set forth in Specifications 345,303, and 354,350, [Group XXXVI].
