Abstract
355,797. Air-break switches. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London, TRENCHAM, H., Oakthorpe, Kings End, Ruislip, and HEATH, H. C., 51, Kingsway, Wembley, both in Middlesex. May 27, 1930, No. 16320. [Class 38 (v).] Contacts.-The contact and pivot of a poleoperated isolating switch or switch fuse for mounting on the transmission pole of a high-tension transmission system are each formed from a single stout. wire member or from two stout wire members bent to form two substantially parallel arms with flared ends between wheels the contact arm is guided into clipping engagement. In the horizontally-mounted form shown in Fig. 1 two insulators 4, 5 are secured in an inclined position so as to be at right-angles to one another on a bracket 7. The bent wire contact 15 with its flared ends 17 is secured to one of the insulators and a stout wire 2 bent to form a partly closed eye and constitute a pivot is secured to the other insulator, which also carries a second stationary contact member 2a. The movable contact member at the pivot end is provided with a rectangular or semicircular formation so that when swung round to the off position the contact member can be removed as a whole. In the construction of a switch fuse shown in Fig. 2 the blade 1 is of insulating material and carries conducting sleeves 21, 22 at its ends. The fusewire is connected directly to the lower cap and passes through an insulating tube 23 mounted in a conducting tube 21 secured to the upper sleeve and is clamped to the tube 21 by the nut 22. In an alternative form, Fig. 3 (not shown), employing an insulator only, the insulator is clamped to the overhead conductor by a hooked plate which carries one of the stout wire contacts, the other being carried at the other end of the insulator. The various constructions described can be made up to suit different conditions from the same standard parts.
