Abstract

696,341. Switchboards. METROPOLITANVICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. Sept. 14, 1951 [Sept. 14, 1950], No. 21651/51. Class 38 (v) [Also in Group XXXVI] A distribution board comprises a pair of spaced parallel busbars 10, 11 having lateral extensions 10<SP>I</SP>, 11<SP>I</SP>, respectively, provided with upturned ends 22, 23 forming contact blades adapted to be engaged by circuit-breakers, to be connected to the board. The extensions 10<SP>I</SP>, 11' overlap and are separated by an insulating piece 24, and the arrangement is such that blades 23 lie between blades 22 in a line parallel to the busbars. A further central busbar 12 may be provided carrying a conducting member 19 having blades 20 which lie outside the blades 22, the member 19 being separated from the extension 10<SP>I</SP> by an insulating piece 21. The busbars have offset ends 13-15 whereby they are connected to the supply wires and are secured to a pair of insulating blocks 16 mounted on a support plate 17. Edges 25 of the plate 17 have catch members 26 to assist in mounting the circuitbreakers. To mount a circuit-breaker 27 a lug 28 at at one end thereof is engaged in a catch member 26 and the breaker is swung on the catch until a contact jaw 29 on the other end engages one half of a corresponding blade 20, 22 or 23. Two circuit-breakers 27 may be mounted side-by-side, their contact jaws engaging a common blade. In an alternative construction, the busbar assembly is embedded in a body of insulating material in the manner disclosed in Specification 696,340.
