Abstract

619,056. Regulating switches. GRESHAM TRANSFORMERS, Ltd., CLEGG, J. A., and LOCKE, R. A. May 28, 1946, No. 16220. [Class 38 (v)] Brushes for contacting a current collector composed of a series of mutually insulated conducting strips, e.g. for tap-changing transformers, comprise a pair of electricallyconnected brushes having a width in the direction of motion slightly less than the width of each strip, one of the brushes being of lower conductivity and wider than the other. In the form shown, conducting strips a, b connected to windings h are spaced by insulating strips c of the same width. A narrow brush d of high conductivity and a wider brush e of lower conductivity are connected in pairs which engage conducting strips on each side alternately, the brushes e making and breaking the circuit. The brushes are connected by resistances or inductive impedances f, g, the middle one, g, being centre-tapped for a connection at m. In one modification, a single wide brush is used, this engaging the zone of overlap between the conducting bars. An arm structure for carrying the brushes is shown.
