Abstract

979,086. Multi-contact switching systems. COMPAGNIE INDUSTRIELLE DES TELECOMMUNICATIONS. Nov. 30, 1962 [Dec. 1, 1961], No. 45549/62. Heading H2H. A multi-contact single-pole switch of the slider and contact stud type is arranged so that switching is effected without any break or overlap by connecting the input terminal A of the switch to the moving contact 303 of a flip-flop relay 30 whose fixed contacts 304, 305 are connected to conductive tracks 52, 53 associated with parallel rows of output studs 31 . . . 37, 32 . . . 38 through sliders 49, 50. The rows contain equal numbers of studs staggered by a halfpitch in relation to one another, and a third row of studs 40 . . . 47, alternately aligned with the studs 31 . . . 38 and equal in number thereto, is associated with a track 51 through a slider 48, the sliders 48, 49, 50 being aligned and rigidly connected together. The odd studs 41 . . . 47 are connected to a winding 301 of the relay 30 and the even studs 40 . . . 46 to a winding 302, these windings being connected to one pole of a battery 39 whose other pole is connected to the track 51. In operation, passage of the slider 48 from one stud to another reverses the stable position of the relay 30 and connects the input A to a stud in one or other of the rows 31 . . . 37, 32 . . . 38, depending on the position of slider 48 and its direction of movement. For slider positions intermediate of the studs 40 . . . 47 the connection of input A is the same as that for the preceding stud, due to the action of the relay 30. In a modification for a three-pole switch, Fig. 4 (not shown), the relay has three sets of contacts, the moving contact of each being connected to a corresponding input terminal (one per pole) and the fixed contacts being connected to the tracks (three per row) associated with the output studs. Two additional sliders are provided per row for the additional tracks and are aligned in pairs, the aligned sets of sliders being spaced from one another by one or more pitches of the studs 40 . . . 47. The contact studs may be disposed on a cylindrical surface and the invention may be applied to a distributer having the form of a collector of a rotating electric machine, the relay contacts being connected to rings.
