Abstract
348,258. Regulating switches. RAMSDEN, L. A., 75, North Street, Cheetham, Manchester. Feb. 28, 1930, No. 6636. [Class 38 (v).] A switch comprises an insulating drum A having on its circumference a number of metal strips C which short-circuit contact arms B which are arranged in groups, adjacent arms in adjacent groups being connected together at b<1>. The strips C are so arranged that a predetermined number of the arms B are always short-circuited in all positions of the drum. Fig. 4 shows an arrangement for raising and lowering the arms B in any one group independently of the remaining groups ; Cams d are mounted on loose sleeves D<1> on a shaft D which sleeves when rotated by a knob D4 cause the cams to raise the arms B out of contact with the drum. Fig. 5 shows a modification in which the drum is provided with metal strips C<1> . . C<4> arranged in groups both longitudinally and circumferentially whereby the external circuits can be joined in series or parallel. Contact makers B<1> are arranged on a terminal block B and current is led to the various groups through the circumferential conductors C<1>. A second terminal block F carries contacts F<1> which are connected by bars f to provide a path for the current to the circumferential strips C<1>, C<3>. The switch may be used for obtaining colour effects as described in Specification 328,201, [Class 38 (v), Electric switches &c.].
