Abstract
502,393. Regulating-switches. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., June 30, 1938, No. 19443. Convention date, June 30, 1937. [Class 38 (v)] In a switch adapted for varying the voltage ratio of a transformer and similar purposes having a number of contacts in the form of cylindrical bars arranged in a circle and one or more contact-pieces carried on a cranked axle the rotation of which inserts them between the contacts, the contact-pieces are mounted on a block journalled on the cranked axle and having a notch engaging the fixed contacts so as to guide the contact pieces into position. The contact pieces 27 are bevelled and adapted to slide on pins 23 under the action of springs 24, and can rotate to a limited extent about the pins, so as to make good contact with the cylindrical rods 12.. 17 even if the latter are not accurately parallel. The pins 23 are mounted on an insulating block 20 journalled on a cranked shaft 21 and formed with a notch 30 adapted to engage the rods 12 .. 17 and guide the contact pieces past the opposite rod into the space between it and the next rod as shown in Fig. 3.
