[Class 38 (v)] In heavy-current switches of the kind in which a pair, or a plurality of similar pairs, of independently pivoted contact arms a, each carrying a contact tip d, are urged towards each other by a spring or springs m, the contact tips being adapted to receive between them a relatively movable contact bar i, the arms of each pair are in the form of overlapping bellcrank levers and are mounted on separate pivot pins j, k arranged parallel with each other, the pivot pin of each arm or corresponding set of arms passing through apertures l in the other arm or set of arms so as to serve as a stop for the latter arm or arms. In the arrangement shown, a plurality of pairs of arms is provided, and some of them, which serve as arcing contacts, are made longer than the others and are adapted to engage a removable arcing tip n carried at the end of the bar i. The arcing tip n may be made of brass, and the bar i of copper.
