Abstract
439,757. Switch contacts. BRITISH THOMSON - HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. Sept. 5, 1934, No. 25597. Convention date, Sept. 7, 1933. [Class 38 (v)] In a circuit-breaker having arcing contacts comprising a pair of opposed finger contacts 7 adapted to be spread apart by the movable contact-member 2 in the closed position, means are provided for applying pressure to the tips 71 of the contact fingers during the initial engagement with the member 2, and for shifting the pressure from the tips upon complete engagement of the contacts. In the form shown, the contact fingers 7 are resiliently mounted on leaf springs 8 clamped to a positioning block 12 on an adaptor 9 which is clamped to the lead-in conductor 11. In the initial stages of the closing movement, members 16 pivoted on the clamping plates 15 are pressed into engagement with the tips of the contact fingers 7 by leaf springs 17, but in the fully closed position, the members 16 are moved out of engagement with the tips 7<1> of the contact fingers by pins 23 on the clamping blocks 14, the pressure of the springs 17 being thereby transferred from the tips to the sides of the contact fingers 7.
