Abstract

417,314. Projectiles. SOC. METALLURGICA ITALIANA, 84, Via Vittorio Veneto, Rome. April 16, 1934, No. 11466. Convention date, April 20, 1933. [Class 9 (i).] In an incendiary projectile of small or medium calibre especially for use in guns on aircraft, the incendiary charge 3 is enclosed in a frangible envelope 2 located in the ogival front end of a strong metallic casing 1 having perforations 9 through which the incendiary material is expelled on impact. Behind the incendiary charge, is a steel core 4 and a flight marking charge 5. The strong metallic casing causes the projectile to perforate the hard wood blade of the aircraft propeller without damage if at the moment of discharge such a blade is accidentally in the path of the projectile.
