Abstract

572,732. Armour - piercing bullets. MOSEY, W., and EYELET ENGINEERING CO., Ltd. Oct. 3, 1941, No. 12770. [Class 9 (i)] An armour - piercing bullet comprises an outer shell body 2 with a soft metal nose 1, an inner armour - piercing body 4 surrounded by a sleeve 3, and an hydraulic or other medium 5 on which the bases of the inner body and sleeve normally rest ; the arrangement is stated to be such that, on impact, the nose is splayed and the sleeve 3 is driven inwardly to compress the medium which thereupon ejects the inner body forwardly at an enhanced speed for penetration. The depression of the plunger may cause the explosion of a charge to eject the body 4. The hydraulic medium may be para. ffin wax or a ductile metal.
