[Class 38 (v).] A pneumatically actuated, gas-blast switch has the apparatus for gen erating or storing the pressure gas and controlling the supply thereof tc the switch formec wholly or partially as a unitary appara tus, which is physically separated and electrically isolated by a wall or protective grid from the current-conducting parts of the switch and is connected thereto only by the conveying pipes whereby inspection of the apparatus is rendered safe. The container 1 is surmounted by the enclosure 14 which contains the valves and their controlling magnets, the " on " and " off " pull knobs 5, 7, pressure-gauge 9, indicator lamps and their control switch, and a switch for the compresser 2. Pipes 12, 13 for switching off and on pass through a solid wall 15 or wire gauze sheet to the switch proper 3. A common actuating shaft 18 actuates all three poles by means of a lever 20. The movable contact 16 co-operates with a hollow fixed contact 17 above which is the silencer 4. Where one compresser supplies several switches it may be erected separately, and where there are several containers they may be interconnected by pipes having valves to prevent escape of gas if a container develops a leak.
