Abstract
510,473. Oil-break switches. ELLISON, Ltd., G., and ANDERSON, J. March 24, 1938, No. 9017. [Class 38 (v)] An electric oil-immersed circuit breaker, has, in combination with the fixed and movable contacts a gas trap and a separately made impermeable shield depending from the gas trap, so arranged that the gas formed on separation of the contacts is collected in the trap and allowed to escape slowly into the air. In the Figure the hot gases formed on separation of the contacts a, b are collected, by means of the shield h, in the trap g from which they are allowed to escape slowly into the air space above the oil, for example, by means of a leakage between the gas trap g and the plate c. The shield may be attached to the trap by means of studs k, n and be firmly held in place against the effect of the arc explosion by means of insulating pieces o.
