Abstract
416,161. Vehicle wheels. MCNAMARA, R. E., 504, Victoria Avenue, Windsor, Ontario, Canada. June 27, 1933, No. 18281. Convention date, Aug. 6, 1932. [Class 144 (ii).] A detachable-rim comprises an endless part 5 having a rib 7 to seat against a flange 2 of the fixed wheel-rim and a detachable part 9 in the form of a split ring which is flanged to co-operate with a flange 8 on the rim-part 5 and a shallow flange 3 on the fixed rim. To permit assemblage on the wheel, the flange 9 is expanded by means of a lever 14 which is pivoted on one end of the flange and carries a link 16 pivoted to the other end of the flange. The latter is shown expanded in Figs. 4 and 8, and contracted in Figs. 6 and 7. On release of the lever 14, the flange 9 is automatically contracted into locking engagement with the wheel-rim by the inflation-pressure of the tyre. To prevent accidental displacement of the flange 9 when the rim is off the wheel, the flange 8 may be formed with a groove 23 to receive the edge of the flange 12 on the part 9. The ends of the latter may be provided with a pin-and-slot connection.
