Abstract
406,867. Vehicle wheels. ZIPPER, E., and ZIPPER, W., 120A, Hietzinger Hauptstrasse, Vienna. March 7, 1933, No. 6960. Convention date, March 9, 1932. [Class 144 (ii).] A detachable-rim of the kind described in Specification 310,018, [Class 144 (ii)], comprising a split side flange 12 and an endless main portion 11 capable of limited axial separation (due to the tyre pressure) after assemblage on the wheel, is secured by a split ring 25 which, in expanding to lock the rim, moves axially towards the latter so as to minimize the actual separation of the rim-parts 11, 12. In the construction shown, the rim-flange 12, before assemblage of the rim on the wheel, is held fully expanded by means of a toggle 18 fitted between lugs 19 on the flange. The split locking-ring 25 is formed with wedge-shaped projections 28 adapted to engage, in bayonetjoint fashion, in correspondingly-grooved lugs 29 on the ends of the spokes 10. The ring 25 is expanded by means of a pivoted wedge 35 adapted to be forced between the ends 25<1>, 252 of the ring.
