Abstract
494,615. Vehicle wheels. ZIPPER, E. Aug. 19, 1937, No. 22797. Convention date, Aug. 19, 1936. [Class 144 (ii)] A detachable rim device of the kind described in Specification 406,867, in which the tyre-carrying rim is in axially-separable parts clamped between a fixed wheel-flange &c. and a split locking-ring, is provided with means for preventing relative axial displacement of the rim-parts by the inflated tyre on release of the means by which these parts are locked together when detached from the wheel. In the construction shown, the tyre-carrying rim comprises a split flange 12 normally expanded into locking-engagement with a continuous main portion 11 by means of a toggle 18 engaging lugs 19 near the ends of the flange. The rim is secured between fixed abutment 14 on the ends of the spokes 10 and a split ring 25 adapted to be jammed between coned seatings 27, 32 on the rim-part 12 and the spoke-ends respectively. After assembly of the rim and locking-ring, and before release of the toggle 18, the locking-ring is forcibly expanded against the rim-seat 27 by means of a cam-disc 35, constituting a rotary wedge, which is moved by means of the bolt 39 into the gap 15 between the ends 251, 25<2> of the rim-flange 12.
