Abstract
310,018. Zipper, E., and Zipper, W. April 21, 1928, [Convention date]. Detachable-rim attachments to wheels; tyre attachments to rims.-The inflation-pressure of the tyre is utilized to secure a divisible detachable rim on releasing the means by which the two parts of the rim are locked against axial separation before assemblage on the wheel. In the form shown in Fig. 2, the rim comprises two continuous rings m, n connected by a split-ring f. In the expanded position of the latter, the rim may be assembled so as to leave a slight clearance between the fixed and detachable flanges d, b, respectively of the wheel-felloe a. After assemblage, the ring f is contracted, whereupon the rim parts m, n are forcibly spread into firm contact with the flanges b, d. In the modification shown in Figs. 5 and 8, the rim comprises a continuous part p and a split flange q shaped to interengage as shown. The ends q', q<2> of the flange q arc fitted with pins j<1>, j<2> to co-operate with a toggledevice u, w for expanding or contracting the flange q.
