[Class 131.] Apparatus for use in hair-waving comprises a curler 1, Fig. 2, a pair of tongs 8 for use in winding the tress on the rod, and a hairholding clip 17, Fig. 6, adapted to be engaged over the wound tress. The curler 1 is provided with a reduced end 3 adapted to fit into a socket 5 in one limb 9 of the tongs, and with a pivoted hair-clamping finger 2 having an enlarged disc-shaped end 7 engaging in slots in the end 3 of the rod and in the socket 5. The finger 2 is normally held open, as shown, by the engagement of a spring 15 on the limb 9 with one edge of the disc 7, the front end 12 of the limb 10 of the tongs being curved inwards so that, when the tongs are closed, it bears against the other edge of the disc 7 and closes the finger 2 against the action of the spring 15. The hairholding clip 17 comprises a pair of pivoted metal jaws 18, 19, e.g. of aluminium, provided with thick walled semi-cylindrical front portions 21, which may be each fitted with a liner. The jaws are provided with a covering 25 of felt or other heat insulating material, and the outer surfaces of the portions 21 may be provided with air circulating channels 24. In use, the curler 1 is heated, engaged with the tongs, and the end of the tress placed beneath the finger 2. The tongs are next closed, to cause the finger 2 to grip the tress, and then rotated to wind the tress on the curler, after which the heated clip is applied over the wound tress and the tongs are detached.
