[Class 131.] A hair-curling appliance comprises a pair of tongs 3, Fig. 4, the arms 1, 2 of which are adapted to come parallel with each other before they reach their fully closed position, and a curler consisting of a cylindrical tube 4 adapted to be engaged with the arm 1 and a part 5, Figs. 2 and 4, provided with a longitudinal groove, adapted to be engaged with the arm 2, the arrangement being such that, when the tongs are closed, the tube 4 will fully enter the groove of the part 5 for its entire length whilst the tube 4 and part 5 will be parallel with each other. In use, the end of a tress of hair is gripped between the parts 4, 5, the tress is wound thereon, and after securing the tress the tongs are withdrawn. The arms of the tongs may be electrically heated.
