483,109. Hair -- curling appliances. SOLOMON, N. L. April 9, 1937, No. 10203. Convention date, Jan. 18. [Class 131] A hair curler comprises juxtaposed members 11, 12 pivoted together at 16, a portion 14 of the length of the curler being of smaller crosssection than the other portion 13, and a spring being provided to keep one portion closed and the other open so that one portion grips the hair to be curled and the other acts as a handle. When using the enlarged part for curling, the end of the tress is placed between the normally separated ends 13, and when using the smaller end the parts 13 are pressed together against the action of the spring to separate the parts 14 so that the end of the hair tress can be gripped between them. In a modification, Fig. 5, a cover 33 of inverted-U-section is pivoted to a tube 30, both tube and cover having one end portion narrower than the other. A spring 37 bears at one end against the tube and the other end passes through a hole 40 in the tube and bears against the cover.
