415,448. Starting prime movers. ECLIPSE MACHINE CO., Elmira, New York, U.S.A. Jan. 25, 1933, No. 2402. Convention date, Jan. 26, 1932. [Class 38 (iv).] In an electric starting system for internalcombustion engines comprising an ignition switch 11 which also closes the circuit of a coil acting on a starting circuit switch 5, the circuit of coil 9 being broken at an inertia trembler switch 14, 15 by movement of an armature 21 responsive to starter current in a coil 6, to battery voltage on a coil 24 and to generator voltage on a coil 25, uniform operation of armature 21 is secured despite variations in the battery voltage by supplying the coil 24 through a barretter or iron-hydrogen resistance 31, which has a high positive temperature coefficient so that the current in the coil 24 is maintained at a predetermined constant valve despite variations in the voltage of the battery.
