Abstract

Oxide films formed on aluminium or its alloys by chemical or electro-chemical treatment are further treated to render them white by introduction of barium sulphate into or in intimate association therewith; this may be done by impregnating the film with a solution of barium sulphide and then subjecting it to oxidation, for example, by means of hydrogen peroxide. The films may be treated in a solution of tannic acid before impregnation. After introduction of the barium sulphate they may be oiled and waxed and lightly buffed Specifications 290,901, 290,903, [both in Class 41], 395,390 and 396,743, [both in Group XXXVI], are referred to.
