409,768. Electric speedometers. NORTH & SONS, Ltd., Whippendell Road, and ALLEN, A. MASSEY-, 142, Queen's Avenue, both in Watford, Hertfordshire. Nov. 10, 1932, No. 31769. [Class 106 (iii).] In speedometers of the permanent magnet generator type in which the speed is indicated by a voltmeter, the rotatable permanent magnet is associated with an adjustable magnetic short circuit to facilitate adjustment of the effective strength of the magnet. The driving spindle 4 carries on its inner end two spaced bar magnets 6 to which are riveted sector shaped polepieces 11 rotating within fixed poles 23 connected to the stator core 20 with windings 21 connected to a voltmeter. Between the bar magnets 6 is mounted frictionally a two armed iron stamping 15 which may be adjusted into or out of alignment with the magnets to decrease or increase the magnetic strength and thus enable the speeds and the indications on the voltmeter to be brought into agreement. The stamping 15 may be adjusted positively. A distance integrating or revolution connecting device 27 such as that described in Specification 410,764, may be driven through gearing 28.
