Abstract

[Class 37] [Also in Group XXXV] An indicating or repeating instrument of the resultant field type has the rotor magnetically biassed to a predetermined position when the instrument is de-energized in order to avoid a misleading indication if the supply is interrupted. As shown, the rotor 15 is a permanent magnet and co-operates with a fixed magnet 19 for bias purposes. Magnet 19 is well spaced from the rotor to prevent interference with normal working, but its flux may be neutralized by an electromagnet 22 energized with the stator. In the case of wound rotors, a permanent magnet is mounted thereon and cooperates with pole pieces of a fixed magnet arranged to avoid axial thrust on the rotor. The Provisional Specification also describes gravity bias.
